Legend (2015)

Legend is a 2015 British crime thriller directed by Brian Helgeland and based on the true story of the infamous Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie, who ruled London’s criminal underworld in the 1960s. Tom Hardy delivers a powerful dual performance, portraying both brothers with distinct personalities and intensity.

Reggie Kray is charming, intelligent, and ambitious. He seeks to expand their criminal empire while maintaining a respectable public image. In contrast, Ronnie Kray is volatile, openly homosexual, and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Despite their differences, the twins are inseparable and form a feared partnership in London’s East End.

The film follows their rise to power through extortion, armed robbery, and nightclub ownership, all while eluding law enforcement. As Reggie falls in love with Frances Shea, a young woman from the neighborhood, he attempts to balance his love life with his increasingly dangerous criminal career. Frances, played by Emily Browning, provides a tragic lens through which we witness Reggie’s internal struggle and the emotional cost of his lifestyle.
As Ronnie’s mental instability and violent behavior grow more uncontrollable, tensions between the brothers escalate. Their empire begins to crack under the weight of their differences, the constant pressure from the police, and internal betrayals. The film culminates in tragedy, as relationships shatter and justice eventually catches up with them.
