Esteros is a beautiful and heartfelt Argentine drama that explores themes of first love, identity, and the complexities of dealing with forbidden feelings. The story follows Matías and Jeremías, two childhood friends who shared a deep bond while growing up in a small town near Esteros del Iberá, a vast marshy area in Argentina. They separate in their teens, but their paths cross again years later, when Matías returns to the city and meets Jeremías again.

As they spend more time together, Matías realizes that the feelings he had for Jeremías as a boy have resurfaced, but now they must face the social and familial pressures that accompany a same-sex relationship in a conservative society. In addition to the rekindled connection, Matías’ girlfriend Ana plays a pivotal role in the story, adding emotional depth to the complexities of love, loyalty, and self-discovery.

Esteros delicately portrays the tension between love and societal expectations, as Matías and Jeremías try to navigate their emotions and see if they can accept their feelings for each other despite the consequences. The film explores the themes of self-acceptance, the freedom to love without fear, and the impact of revisiting the past.
